SYNOPSIS: (According to my husband, who has NOT read the book —  see how well he listens to my bookish ramblings)

Do you remember that girl who lived in a little town with her depressed mother??  You know the one who meets these crazy brothers who tell her to live life on the edge?  How about the time there was a murder and everyone was a suspect?  I don’t remember these things, but Betty does after reading this book.  Just think, you could have similar memories of the DANGEROUS BOYZ!!!

BOOK ROCK BETTY BREAK DOWN:
  •  THE KISSING –  There was some kissing, but really, these people are off their rockers and it was hard to feel the feels.  Oliver brought some steam, but again– OFF HIS FREAKING ROCKER!
  • THE SWOONING - I swooned for about 5 minutes over Oliver.  He is confident and doesn’t mess around when he wants something.  He is blunt and jumps in with both feet.  Ethan was cute too, but more of a sweet, goodie goodie kind of cute.  He is marriage material, but didn’t really crank up the heat in the bedroom if you know what I’m saying.  ;)
  • THE SWAGGER - Abigail Haas stuck with her unique method of telling a twisted story.  It was told in 3 parts that alternated throughout the book: Then (the past), The End (the insane climax), and Now (the aftermath).  I loved trying to put the pieces together to figure out what happened and who did what!
  • THE OH SNAP! –  1. Depression  2. Obligations  3. Brothers  4. Lust  5. Desire  6. Lies  7. Perverted Teachers  8. Hunting  9. Dirty Cops  10. Murder
  • THE UMMMM WHAT?? –  1. Ummm… so Oliver and Chloe go hunting.  She kills a deer… he wipes deer blood on her lips and then they kiss.  WHAT. THE. HELL.  Seriously, WHAT THE HELL?????  2. Oliver “saunters” throughout the entire book.  There has to be another word in the dictionary to describe “saunter”.  It drove me crazy.

ENCORE:

Just like Dangerous Girls, this book had me on the edge of my seat, dying to know how the craziness went down!  I love the way the story came together and how I really didn’t know how messed up everyone was until the very last page.  It was twisted and the characters were brutal.  I felt bad for Chloe because of her home life situation, but woaaaah… way to do a 180!  We all have thoughts– crazy ones, but don’t usually act on them.  It was interesting to watch characters that had the guts to take action!

The only negative was that I didn’t really feel connected to the characters.  I was completely invested in the story, but didn’t fully believe in the relationships between Chloe and the brothers. Obviously the focus was on Chloe trying to figure out her life in order to get out of that small town, but the relationships were told, not really shown.  Regardless, a really compelling read!  I’m looking forward to whatever Abigail Haas comes up with next!
